E3 99: CalBear's Summary

A Bear Runs Amok

E3: the holy mecca of all that is gaming. Many of you kids out there (yes even the kids over 20) would probably rather go to E3 than to Disneyland, and rightfully so. It’s a spectacle that at times defies explanation with its outrageous booths, raucous atmosphere, and games games games! This year was my second E3; I attended 1998’s E3 in the sweltering, humid confines of Atlanta. Sure Atlanta was a great city, lots of fun to visit, and the people are nice. But I’m a native Angeleno - LA is an awesome place, always has been, always will be (boy oh boy I can feel the flames already for that heh). E3 belongs in LA and I sure was glad that they brought it back to the newly renovated LA Convention Center. And thankfully, the weather cooperated! E3 is not an outdoors event, but when going to and leaving the convention, it’s nice not to be drenched in sweat from 90 degree heat and 90% humidity! LA as usual, was sunny and mild at about 75-80 degrees for most of our stay.

On the road again

So as I mentioned before on the message boards, I drove down to LA, but separately from Kenn and soso (Dennis and other members of GX decided on flying down and back). I recently got a new Honda Accord Coupe V6, so I kinda wanted to get it out of the cramped confines of the Bay Area and stretch its legs a bit. Unlike Kenn and soso, I was smart and took the I-5 down to LA, which is a shorter, but less scenic route than the 101, which they took. Made the drive all the way down in one shot without stopping or having to refuel! I took one night to rest up before the big first day at the show!
