More Sharedware

What exactly is it?

The Sharedware Savage product is basically a S3 Savage 3D video card and a sound card integrated in one board. Pop the card into your system - it works with your existing sound and video card. The Sharedware Savage has a multitude of connectors on it. These include 2 PS/2 ports for the extra mouse and keyboard, a monitor output for the second monitor, an audio out for speakers, a TV out (RCA) and a mic input. You can even add additional users to your computer by adding more Sharedware boards.

Features

The ultimate target price for this product is $200, although it costs $275 right now ($242 with their special promo). If the product does well, they say they will look into converting other chipsets as Sharedware boards. Also, later revisions of the Sharedware board will have a “breakout box” with a 200 foot cable that contains all the connectors. This will mean that the two users don’t have to be near each other. Have one user near the computer in your living room, then run the wire from the breakout box all the way upstairs to a bedroom where the other user can plug in his/her monitor/keyboard/mouse/speakers. Overall it sounds like a great solution for people who don’t want to invest in another complete system, but need a second workstation. FS will be doing a review on this product when we can get our hands on a board. Sharedware was working on getting more distribution in the US during the show, but it should start making its way on shelves during the coming weeks. Check out their site for more info.
