Single Player and More
Single player
SoF isn't all about running and gunning though - you've got a variety of mission types from search and destroy to hostage rescue. Innocents are sprinkled in the levels too so don't shoot indiscriminately. The single player campaign is very story driven, and is being written by a well known professional author. The author's name will be revealed later, but it's a good sign that the single player campaign will be compelling enough for people to play through it. You'll be taken all over the world for missions, from a NYC subway to clean out gang infestations, to an Iraqi oil refinery, to the freezing confines of Siberia. You'll even play one mission on a moving train! The Raven team stressed that they want the game to play like an epic action film; certainly the train level showed that! In that level you can see the backgrounds sliding by and feel the motion of the train underneath you. All while dealing with the usual hordes of soldiers as well as a helicopter gunship flying about overhead. Should you shoot it down with brute force? Or use your sniper rifle to pop the pilot?

Soldier of Fortune has a very interactive world as well. The environments aren't sparse at all, and all the objects can be shot up, burned, or blown up. Since the game ships with a full level and scripting editor, you'll be able to create your own missions and maps to play on. Of course multiplayer is included in the game with a variety of game types. DM is in there of course, as is Assassin (find and kill a specific player - one is hunting you too), and Arsenal (be the first to kill with EACH weapon).
