It's like living on a farm...

When was the last time you saw a picture of a new game and really took a step back to say "Wow, this is something new." As levels look better and gain curved surfaces, portals, and other neat tricks, do you ever feel that even the newest technology is starting to get…well, passe? No matter how pretty it gets, it's still the same game over and over again.

Wow, getting a little jaded aren't we? While I believe that gameplay is a vital aspect to making a successful and fun title, it's foolish to understate the role technology plays. Tech is one of the major keys that push the genre forward. Sure, it's noble (and idealistic) to claim that the artistic and very human skills of adding creativity and gameplay are more important than the cold, unfeeling engine behind the game, but facts are facts - technology drives FPS gaming.

Well, we'll see about that, won't we? You've gotta admit though, there's a helluva lot of evidence saying otherwise.
