Midtown Madness 2

Driving around in my automobile

The original Midtown Madness was a real gaming phenomenon. We'd never seen a real working city, complete with traffic lights, traffic rules, and pedestrians that scurried about on their businesss. OK so there were some AI issues and sometimes the cars drove a little screwy, but mostly the city lived and worked as it should have, save for one player controlled, maniac car (yours) being chased down by the cops. The original Midtown took place in Chicago, complete with real landmarks like the Sears Tower, Wrigley Field, and Soldier Field. Midtown 2 features two cities this time around, San Francisco and London, with San Francisco being slightly bigger than Chicago was, and London being about the same size as the original Midtown city.

All your favorite cars from the original Midtown Madness are back, including the Volkswagen Beetle, the Ford Mustang, and the 18 wheeler truck. 8 more cars will join them in Midtown 2 - the list will likely include the Audi TT, a 60s era Mustang, an Aston Martin, a London cab, and a London Double Decker bus.

Crash Courses

A new gameplay mode has been added - the Crash Courses. You'll train on how to be a taxi driver in the Imperial Cabbie Academy in London. Or if you choose the San Francisco route, you'll race as a Hollywood stunt driver on a movie set (so many great car chases were filmed on the hilly San Francisco streets). Mastering these modes will unlock new races, new cars, and maybe an easter egg or two!

Yeah, baby, yeah!

The same zany gameplay feel has been kept from the original, so expect more of the same madcap action you all knew and loved in Midtown 1. Also expect to find improved driver AI (no more inexplicable crashing) Midtown Madness 2 is due out in Fall 2000, and we'll be waiting anxiously for its arrival. And no, you still can't run over the pedestrians!

Expected Release: Fall 2000

Guess you'll have to get used to driving on the left side of the street in the London level. Or not.
