Starlancer

Wing Commander again?

It only makes sense for the Roberts brothers to create another space combat game - they practically invented the genre with Wing Commander. Starlancer, due out next month, looks like a game that could give Interplay's Freespace 2 a run for its money as the best space combat sim on the market. With its tight control, crisp graphics, and the Roberts name behind it, Starlancer will be a must buy game for any Wing Commander fan.

Compelling weapon sound effects and ship destruction graphics deepen the experience for players, while 25 missions should keep gamers entranced for hours on end. The game ships with almost half an hour of high quality CG animated movies. The campaign reacts dynamically to how the player performs within the missions. You'll have dozens of ships at your disposal, as well as a dizzying array of gun weapons, missiles, torpedoes, and more to outfit your fighters with.

FS has acquired a playable beta of Starlancer so lookout for a hands on preview on the game soon. For now, let's just say that multiplayer dogfighting in an asteroid field is pretty darn fun! Three machines were linked together at Gamestock, leading to plenty of laser/plasma fire exchange between the press attending the event.
