Games with and w/o Anti Alias

How to see it

For the most compelling effect, you should download the before and after images and put them side by side on your desktop in an image viewer. Simply enlarge the picture by clicking, then right click any of the images and select "Save Picture As." Remember you won't see anything unless you enlarge the pictures, so click on one already!

Here, aliasing is most apparent on the vents to the left and the doorway. In the 3dfx V5 shot on the right, the jaggy edges become smoothed

Lots of jaggies here - examine the poster display case, the benches, and the light fixture above. In the V5 shot on the right, everything smooths out nicely.

Aside from flight sims, where rippling ground textures can ruin visual quality, the evils of aliasing are most noticable in racing games like NFS. Look at the shot on the left. Notice the broken powerlines, and the obvious stair stepping on the fences and power poles. Painted white lines look stippled on the left and right side of the road. Load up the V5 picture and everything is fixed!

Obvious stair steps on the edge of the mountain pass, on the tank's shadow, and the tank gun barrel. The V5 picture on the right smooths out the jaggies.

 Random Fact
Adobe photoshop automatically anti aliases when you drop the resolution. Be aware of this before trying your own comparison tests.
