FiringSquad vs. Clan Talon
Throughout the day, a dedicated squad of players calling themselves Clan Talon [TLN] were hanging around and getting in whatever games they could. Their goal for the day - play (and presumably whup on) FiringSquad at the end of the day. Uh oh, I had a bad feeling about this.

Unfortunately, Dennis didn't get any playtime in before, so we were pinning our hopes on Makaveli (uh...he's a writer for the site...yeah...that's it) to carry us through the level. The first match was on xian_dm6, and it was ugly. 8 players + 5 spawns = -3 right from the start. That's a possible bug to consider fixing! :) Clan Talon tenaciously held as the entire level erupted into a massive shotgun/machinegun fury. All I could think of was "Thank God machinegun damage and ammo is reduced!" In the ruckus, I think TLN grabbed all but one quad, which Dennis snagged up with a minute to go and let loose with 10 last-second frags to even up the game. When the dust settled, FiringSquad was up by a paltry 3 or 4 points. We all nearly collapsed to the floor. GG.

TLN game 2
The second map was on one of Paul Jacques' maps. I don't remember the name, but I believe it was called "Vector's Sector." This was the "warmup" map for the previous free-for-alls, and has some beautiful examples of water and a gorgeously rendered curve-surface sandy bottom, complete with misc model skulls and seaweed. Utterly believable and stunning to behold. Luckily for us, Dennis was able to find his groove, and FiringSquad held TLN down to 15 frags for the entire game. Tim and I however, sucked it up big time with 5 frags each, tying for 3rd lowest score out of all 8 players.

Many thanks to Clan Talon for an intense set of matches, and for displaying the sportsmanship that we should all strive to achieve. After the match, we talked a bit, and decided that the second map was a great candidate for a 4 on 4 teamplay map. It's got an RL room that must be guarded, and easily attacked from a number of different angles, as well as several armors, exchanging Quad/Invis spawns, and more.
