Overall, it’s too bad that Gun was scheduled as it is – if it had started development a year earlier, it could have been a truly excellent Xbox or PS2 title. If it had been designed from the get-go as a next-generation game, it would have taken advantage of the features of the 360 and upcoming PS3. Right now it just straddles that uncomfortable boundary of “what might have been”.
GUN is another Neversoft title, a well-written western that could have benefited from another 6 months to a year of development. However, it seems that the release of the new consoles forced Activision’s hand and they let it loose while its graphics were still acceptable – on the old systems. We’re sad to say that GUN falls into the same category as NHL 2K6, in that it’s now capable of higher resolutions, but not much more.
