The eighth entry in the RPG series about alchemists, Grand Fantasm is different from the previous Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana (1&2) in that it is a quest-based RPG where you travel back and forth between your home town base and five separate worlds. You play as Edge Vanhite, an adventurer who's part of a group called Mystruse. Mystruse has made a business of exploring other worlds, and together with your friend Iris Fortner, you spend your days accepting such quests from the adventurer's guild. Grand Fantasm makes use of a battle system called "Active Cost Card Battle," where cards on the top of the screen display what moves will appear next. New to the game is the Blaze Master System -- players can befriend different Manas in each world, earning the ability to fight as a Blaze Master, a warrior that uses weapons associated with the Mana.
