Vehicles
Treads
Distances in this game are rather large, so your feet are just not going to cut it for traversing multiple miles in a decent amount of time. Battlezone 2's vehicles are great for speedier travel and the added firepower you'll need for destroying buildings. There's plenty of variety in the units as well, each serving their own purpose. Some are small and speedy for quick surgical strikes, while others lumber about but can pack a big punch. There are even companion units that can reload and repair your combat vehicles.

Along with commandeering vehicles, one can also take control of buildings such as gun towers and communication buildings. Gun towers have a small entryway in their front side, allowing a player to enter and assume command. The turrets are effective enough as autonomous defense, though. The communications building however, requires the attention of a player. What it does is give the player an overhead view of the action, using a radar display of the battlefield. The main purpose of this view is to set down navigation points for future reference. These points allow the player to send computer controlled units to places of interest on the map that are not directly visible at the moment. Another major use of the comm. building is to provide a staging point for new bases. In fact, this building is a prerequisite to creating new satellite bases.

Boom Machines
Weapons in this game take some getting used to. Some ships can load very few weapons, while others load most any type of gun. Depending on the vehicle, you have the option of loading, at most, four weapons. There are five classes of weapons that are equipped: guns, cannons, missiles, specials, and mortars. All these weapons are dispensed from the armory, a structure that must be built in order to produce supplies. To make reloading somewhat interesting, the designers allowed the armory to launch supplies to just about anywhere on the playing field, just like Battlezone 1.
ISDF units are pretty easy to figure out. If the vehicle is a tank, then 4 different types of weapons can be loaded. The scouts are limited to only two slots. The Scion vehicles behave a bit differently because of their morphing powers. Since their vehicles can morph into different forms, the weapons can change greatly from form to form. One example would be the Scion Warrior. If the sonic cannon is loaded in one mode of the ship, it fires something that resembles a normal shell fired from a cannon. In another mode the weapon acts to repel projectiles. If a missile is fired at a Scion ship using this weapon, the missile will be redirected.
Within the four classes of weapons there are a great deal of options - each category has around 2-3 upgrades. Some weapons are situation specific, while others just wreak havoc in general. Along with offensive add-ons, defensive equipment can also be obtained for certain units. For the Scions, a variety of shields can be used to reduce damage inflicted by energy and projectile based weapons. The other non-weapon devices include teleporters and anti-missile systems.
