I want the truth!
My feelings on the original Blair Witch movie were a mixed bag. On the one hand, I was scared as one could be after walking out of the theater, but I also was a little confused as to what actually happened.
Blair Witch explored several possibilities for the malevolent force in the woods, and in the end, really said nothing about what it was, who it was, and why it did what it did. Explanations in the Blair Witch Project were cast aside with the intention to simply scare you senseless. Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows wasn't much of an improvement on goals and explanations either.

Fortunately, for those of us that still want answers, Gathering of Developers along with Terminal Reality, Human Head Studios, and Ritual Entertainment have taken it upon themselves, with the suitable license, to explain a bit of what transpired in those eerie woods outside of Burkittsville, Maryland.
Gathering of Developers has made leaps and bounds in explaining the origins of these three events, far more than the film makers did in either of the two movies. The game developers have taken even more steps by producing some interesting ideas that lurk in the shadows of the woods. The Blair Witch series offers interesting premises, a great engine, and a license nearly rivaling Star Wars.. err, maybe not quite that big.

You can't handle the truth!
The Blair Witch trilogy of games, with release dates between games close enough to allow you to beat each one and then quickly move on to the next, deals with each of the malicious forces hinted at in the movies. Each game focuses on one of these forces: Rustin Parr, the serial killer, Elly Kedward, the legendary Blair Witch, and then the one landmark in the woods; Coffin Rock. The first game in the series covers Rustin Parr. You can read our review of the first game
here.
The second in the series deals with the circumstances surrounding Coffin Rock. If you'll recall from the movie, back during the Civil War a group of soldiers was found heavily mutilated with insidious symbols scribbled on the bodies. When the authorities visited the site, the bodies had been claimed by the woods, with none to be found by search parties in the following days.
