Ballistics Report
Pros
Graphics
It’s really hard to believe this is the Quake III: Arena engine, but it is. Although CoD was never cutting edge, like Halo it has excellent art, modeling and animation. Gray Matter has slightly improved the experience, mostly with a new particle system that means, among other things, a flamethrower and no more silly marijuana leaf explosion.
Sound
Again, this was something done by the original but the sequel keeps up with it in every way. Absolutely the best sound effects yet.
Gameplay
It’s scripted, linear and totally addicting – a World War II action movie with you as the star. Though the odd bug might kill suspension of disbelief, they only stand out because they’re relatively rare.
Multiplayer
Though it’s very likely to split the community, United Offensive’s multiplayer can only do so because to some people it will be better than the already-great Call of Duty.
Cons
Bugs
Most of the bugs are really minor scripting issues, but the show-stoppers that force you to re-start a map because Captain Einstein can’t kick a door open to pass to the next part of a level are a real pain.
Should be stand-alone
Not that we’re docking points for this, but Activision should have made this an stand-alone expansion both for the sake of the community and just because it warrants stand-alone status.
