Immune to WHAT?!
Keep in mind that the following is purely my personal opinion based on my experiences, and is not moderated for general views at all. Having not played Diablo II since patch 1.03, I must say that the changes that came from the Expansion Pack or 1.08 are somewhat questionable. The balancing of the classes seems somewhat improved, with Barbarians and Necromancers being taken down a notch and other classes getting touch-ups here and there. However, some things simply go beyond reason.

What is up with Immune monsters? Creatures that are immune to melee, or cold, or lightning, or fire, or acid or poison, sometimes a combination of the above? What purpose do they serve? What happens when a Barbarian in a singleplayer game encounters a mini-boss who is immune to melee? When was the last time anyone ever saw a Barbarian blast anything with a Blizzard or Meteor? Killing the thing is rather tedious.
Blizzard's official rationale seems to be to encourage grouping in multiplayer. That's fine and dandy, but what if you're like the majority (yes, majority) of players who play through Diablo II by themselves? There may be hundreds of thousands of people playing D2 on battle.net, but there are millions who bought the game and primarily play in singleplayer. I'm all for making the game more challenging for those who take advantage of grouping, but why punish those who choose not to group? What is a sorceress specializing in lightning supposed to do when she finds out that Diablo is immune to lightning, and her cold and fire skills are not capable of slaying him, and obviously her melee is in no way sufficient?

While immune monsters are rare in Normal difficulty, the first one I've seen being a mini-boss in Act IV, they litter the maps in Hell difficulty. Hell was unplayable and so frustrating that I simply deleted my level 73 Barbarian, with whom I had an original plan of completing the game by myself.
