Conclusion
The Last Word
So far, LoD is offering a mix of good and bad elements, though we'll reserve final judgement until the full review. The good is obviously in the new things, the characters, abilities and items added to the original game and expansion pack. The bad is as bad can get in an expansion pack - it attacks all your achievements from before. Some unique items from the original game get changed on your character when you convert to the expansion - notably, my barbarian's Frostburn gauntlets got gimped, while Nightmare and Hell difficulty levels get progressively more and more immune monsters. Much of what players learned about playing Diablo II (particularly on higher difficulty levels) goes out the window with LoD and patch 1.08. How will players take to such a sudden shift in gameplay? We'll tackle that one in our upcoming Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction review!
