Final Verdict
There’s absolutely no denying that Day of Defeat: Source is a good game. Where we have reservations is in paying for so little of it. Yes, yes, no doubt Valve will release more maps soon and the community is already churning new content out, but are we expected to pay for an updated mod that was free which offers less content than the original but that’s supposed to be ok because the community will fix it? Huh? That’s logic I can’t wrap my head around.
On the other hand, it’s absolutely gorgeous, with exquisite lighting and fantastic sound effects that help deliver the devilishly fast pace right to your own door. Our screenshots quite simply cannot capture the ability of the game engine to fade in and out from dark to light areas, or to contrast a bright bulb in a murky alley. Then there’s little denying that DoD: Source has dominated my leisure playtime since I got it. And, of course, $20 is cheap. Think you’ll get this much entertainment from your Care Bears season 1 DVD?
