Ballistics Report
Pros
Fun, Customizable Gameplay: Skirmish mode really allows players with a huge amount of options to change the way the game plays. Also, diverse powers and abilities for each demigod really let you personalize and address how each match plays out. If you find your rank and file troops getting slaughtered too easily, you can either choose to follow them into combat and pool your offensive capability or simply spend some gold and upgrade them at the citadel.
Graphics/Audio: Demigod looks fantastic through and through, as excellent shadows and lighting, as well as finely detailed character models, really brings the game to life. From regular troops, to a 50-foot man castle, it looks like every tiny detail has been tweaked and adjusted to look as sharp as possible.
Unique Characters: Each demigod plays distinctly different from each other, yet also remains flexible to adjust to current battlefield conditions. We are hard-pressed to pick a favorite, as we really enjoy playing as just about any of them. Sometime we wanted to sit back and pick troops off from afar with Regulus. Other times, we wanted to be in the thick of the fighting, aiding the troops with Oak. It all really depends on what mood you are in or game style you choose to play.
Cons
Maps Lack Variety: Demigod only ships with 8 maps, and while they are pretty varied between each other, the basic map layout remains the same. Each map is boringly flat, with no vertical dimension whatsoever.
No Real Narrative: The single player campaign is extremely bare and boils down to skirmish mode or a basic tournament, with no real exposition. Given the detail that has gone into designing each character, it’s a shame there isn’t a story of some kind to follow beyond the descriptive text that accompanies the demigod selection screen.
No Voice Support: Since Demigod uses Stardock’s Impulse for its online offerings, the game currently lacks in-game voice communication. While we are aware Impulse will eventually offer VoIP similar to Steam, as it stands now, you are relegated to either typing text to your team mates or relying on a 3rd party solution such as Ventrilo. For a game that is based so heavily around teamwork, it’s a real shame it’s more difficult to coordinate than it should have to be.
