Items
Item upgrades
The items made the original Diablo very addictive. People killed monsters for hours in hope of finding magical items. We all know that moment of excitement when you're in he middle of a battle and you hear an item drop. You frantically wave your mouse cursor around the body of the dead creature trying to locate the dropped item. If the item text shows up blue, you know you've found a magical item. While it's always nice to see blue, gold is even better since gold indicates a unique item. In the original Diablo, the unique items tended to be significantly more powerful than the average magical items.
Grey text...
Means socketed item
Gimmie the green stuff!
Not all green items are strong
My magical scepter
A cruel sword
While playing the Diablo II Beta, I found that there are two new item text colors to look out for: green and grey. Green text items seem to appear as rarely as unique (gold text) items and they also seem just as powerful. Grey text indicates "socketed" weapons or armor. You can upgrade socketed items with various gems or skulls to add magical powers to the socketed weapon or armor. Where do you get these gems or skulls? From killing monsters of course!
