Dragon Rodeo
Drakan is one of this year's most anticipated games, a 3D third person action game from Surreal and Psygnosis. You play the role of Rynn, a young warrior heroine seeking the return of her kidnapped brother. To rescue him though, you must join forces with a dragon named Arokh. Through this fascinating partnership between dragon and human, you journey through levels fraught with traps, big monsters, and HUGE monsters as you search out your brother. The partnership between dragon and human is also how Drakan sets itself apart from other 3D action games. Half the game is played on foot where Rynn must use hand to hand weapons, as well as bows and arrows to defeat enemies. The other part of the game involves Rynn flying about on Arokh's back, using the dragon for air to air and air to ground combat.

Hands-On
Dana Oertell and Rick Naylor of Psygnosis were kind enough to offer a personal demonstration of the latest Drakan build at the Psygnosis offices near San Francisco, CA. Just a short drive away from the Firingsquad offices at Berkeley, we were more than happy to take them up on it. While there, Rick demonstrated the Drakan multiplayer games and also a couple of single player levels. There are three types of multiplayer, one called Dragon match (which is playable in the available demo), a hand to hand deathmatch mode played on land without dragons, and a special mode which includes only one dragon and several players.
