Not just a pretty face

Hype has been building steadily for Drakan for many months now and it's finally out. Much of the excitement has been over Drakan's heroine, Rynn, and her… interesting … real life counterpart. In fact, a lot of people will take one look at the game and proclaim it to be a Tomb Raider clone, and there is something to that. Both are 3D, third person adventure games with a buxom, ass kicking heroine. But it's disingenuous to leave things at that because Drakan proves that there's more to the game than just a pretty face.

That's Arokh encased on rock

One of the biggest features in Drakan is that it combines two distinct styles of action. It's all in 3rd person and 3D, but part of the game you'll spend in hand to hand combat (swords, axes, polearms, etc.), while the other half is spent riding the back of your trusty dragon, Arokh as you shoot fire, ice, lightning, and more at your enemies. The gameplay for both of these modes is truly unique. All of this is presented through the breathtaking RIOT engine, and controlled through a nifty interface that's easy to learn.

He's not a morning dragon

So what's the story?

Drakan is set in a medieval fantasy realm. At the outset of the game, Rynn's small village is overrun by the warlike race of Wartoks, who kidnap her little brother in the process. Your entire quest is to find and rescue your younger brother, and to do that, you enlist the help of a sleeping dragon named Arokh, the lone survivor of the last great battle that involved dragons and humans fighting side by side. As you proceed in your journey, you'll find that there's something deeper and more sinister behind the kidnappings and pillaging.

How's the eye candy? And I don't mean just Rynn Next!
