Starsky and Hutch Reborn

Actually Starsky and Hutch was a little bit before my time, but everyone who watched that old TV cop drama remembered it for the classic car chase scenes which typified action dramas in the 70s. Well, if you weren't watching the show for the car chases then you were watching it for that pimp, Huggy Bear. So as a kid who caught the reruns on daytime TV, I must say, those old school car chases were pretty cool, and it's about time that a game recaptured some of that magic. In Driver, the upcoming 3D action game from GT Interactive and Reflections, you can live those car chases over and over again. You play an undercover cop named Tanner and your job is to infiltrate the mob as you offer your services as a driver for hire.

Driver has just been released for the Playstation, but us PC fans will have to wait until September before we can enjoy Driver and its 3D accelerated glory on our high resolution monitors. Well maybe you can now, if the PSX version will work with bleem. So what's going to separate Driver from similar games like Midtown Madness or Grand Theft Auto? Imagine splicing the two games together, but without so much of the in-your-face gratuitous violence of GTA. Now mix in gaming's most sophisticated demo recording feature that you can use to view your car chase in cinematic fashion. Bake at 350 degrees and voila! We have Driver!

 Random Fact
Driver's original story simply had the player as a criminal getaway driver, but there was some concern about the theme, so the story was altered easily enough to make the player an undercover cop POSING as a getaway driver.
