Monsters
The heart of your army
The basis of any good dungeon keeper is his army of baddies. All in all there are 13 monsters (not including Horny) that come under your control in the game. Each has their own likes/dislikes and unique personality. You can attract different monsters to your dungeon based on what kinds of facilities you've built and what kind of level it is. For example, Warlocks like libraries so build a large one, and many will come to study and research spells for you to use. The fire salamanders like Lairs near lava to keep warm. The industrious trolls like to keep busy in the workshop while the beautiful Mistresses of Darkness are into S&M - build a torture chamber to get them in the dungeon. You'll also be in charge of such baddies as Vampires, Black Knights, and Dark Angels.

Keeping them happy
Once you've got monsters in your dungeon you have to keep them happy. Monsters need to eat, need a place to sleep, and of course need to get paid every now and then. For all this you'll need to build a chicken hatchery, a large spacious lair, and mine gold for payment. Not only that but you have to make sure each monster has enough work (and the proper work) for them to do to keep happy. Don't put Warlocks to work in the workshop and don't put oafish Bile Demons researching in the Library! If you lock your Mistresses out of the torture chamber then they tend to get pissed off at you. Some monsters also dislike one another, so in these cases building multiple lairs and separating facilities might be in order. No one said being a Dungeon Keeper was easy! For the most part, if you leave monsters alone and provide enough facilities, they get about on their own and do what they like best.

Getting in their head
One of the coolest features of Dungeon Keeper 2 is the ability to "possess" one of your characters and play them in first person mode, like Quake. When you do this, you are given the ability to pick out a battle party who will follow you into battle. First person combat isn't nearly as deep as say, Quake or Half Life of course, and compared to a real FPS, is actually kind of cheesy. But as an added mode to a strategy game it is pretty cool and it does open you up to using some of your monsters' special abilities and spells that they wouldn't normally use. For example, the Dark Elf archer has a cool sniper mode, and the Mistress has some cool spells like Lightning, Freeze, and Hail.
