Final Days
Saturday, October 23, 1999
The incursion of fire elementals abated throughout the morning, the prophecy notes faded away, and black stones began to fall from the sky. The agents of unknown sorcerers appeared, and offered adventurers magic items of great power for collecting the stones. Perhaps their employers hoped to use the stones to somehow thwart the cataclysm.
Now that's a crater

Rocks continued to rain from the skies, and more and more adventurers redeemed the black rocks for powerful magical artifacts. Adventurers continued to meet the fire creatures, especially in the Direlands, where they remained in force.
Must be one of those flame creatures
Monday, October 25, 1999
If the magicians sponsoring the rock collections had indeed been working on a way to forestall doom, their efforts failed, for the ravenous void ultimately swallowed Dereth. All is not lost, however. From the ashes of the old world, a new more fertile world will rise as the cycle begins again.
Anyone see the Biblical reference?
Editor's note
It's fitting that such an explosive ending should come to the beta test of Asheron's Call. Anything less would have been anticlimactic - at least this way, everyone goes down fighting and no one lost their character to a simple server reset! It's also a good demonstration of the "worldwide" events that Turbine/Microsoft can stage on the online world of Dereth. More events like the destruction of Dereth are certainly possible after the commercial release of the game (though probably nothing quite as catastrophic) and would be great for building the community around the game. We're certainly excited about the November release of Asheron's Call, and we're betting that a lot of you will be joining the online world of Dereth when it "springs alive" again.
