John Carmack, meet Lara Croft
In the past year, a number of high profile games harnessing the Quake 3 engine have been announced. The first to hit the shelves is Heavy Metal: FAKK2, a third-person action game from Ritual, makers of SiN. FAKK2 the PC game shares its name and theme with Kevin Eastman's comic book and animated film. I'm not personally familiar with the comic book (or the comics industry in general), but the gist of the story is that it follows the exploits of Julie, a voluptuous heroine who does battle with various evil, nasty, bad guys. The only important thing to know is that in Julie's world, you can kick ass with guns and magical swords. And oh, by the way…Julie's measurements closely match those of softcore model Julie Strain. Minor detail. *cough*

What does it add up to?
Hmm…so what do we have here? A third person 3D game featuring an asskicking heroine who walks around with ridiculously unreal measurements and scandalously skimpy outfits. Sounds disturbingly similar to Tomb Raider, but let's give Ritual and G.O.D. games the benefit of the doubt for a second. They were smart enough to use the Quake 3 engine, and after a good deal of patching, SiN is a lot better than people give them credit for. I had a chance to play FAKK 2 a bit at the Kiss: Psycho Circus launch party earlier in the month, and from that taste, I felt that this game exhibited a good deal of promise.

Plot? Ya right. You're still staring at the model
As far as story goes, FAKK 2 isn't bad for a computer game. It's been about thirty years since you (Julie) defeated the evil Lord Tyler. Julie gathers all the oppressed people of the universe and establishes a new colony on the idyllic world of Eden (what a creative name!). The nifty thing about Eden is that the planet is like a gigantic fountain of youth. The healing properties of the water have made it so that the colonists don't age! Breathe a sigh of relief - Julie is still as attractive as she was when she beat down Lord Tyler thirty years ago. But as with any paradise, the party never lasts forever. Mysterious comets with mutating properties have broken down the planet's shield. An invasion is afoot!
