Units!

Terrain/Resources

The terrain features rolling 3D hills, cliffs, and valleys. There are also water areas that cannot be traversed by land vehicles such as tanks - only aircraft and hovercraft. There are also a few different resource types, reminiscent of Starcraft. Two different geyser types - one can be mined quickly but has finite resources, and another which yields money slowly but is unlimited. Crystals are also scattered about the map but these only yield a one time boost in resources. Keep in mind though that Fire and Darkness is barely in alpha, so all this stuff is bound to change.

Units!

Another thing that impressed me was the wide variety of units. You've got your standard gun tanks, and speeder craft with guns and lasers. Other tanks come mounted with rockets or flame throwers, and more! There are a couple of more specialized units - one is a mobile shield generator that can protect any units that are within range of it. Another is a mobile EMP gun that can stop enemy vehicles in their tracks (remember the end of "The Matrix?"); there's another one called a shield cracker that is designed specifically for punching through shields.

The air game

That only covers a fraction of the land units. The air units are unique because they don't just hover in place as they do in a lot of other games such as Starcraft. The hovercraft do, obviously, but the airplane/starship looking ones cannot. Like a real aircraft, they must fly in a wide circle over the area you move them to. They also included a VTOL craft reminiscent of the Orca in C&C - this one can move quickly and set down on the ground. Also included are fast flying carrier ships can pick up slower land vehicles for transit across long distance and across water. There are about 35 vehicles already in the game and possibly more to come later.
