Gameplay

A REAL adventure game

To sum it up in one sentence, Gabriel Knight 3 is a solid translation of the traditional 2D adventure game of old (King's Quest series, Space Quest, Monkey Island, etc) into today's 3D gaming world. If you loved those types of games, with their puzzles, riddles, and "what should I do next" game play, then you'll probably like Gabriel Knight 3 a lot. Those of you who like fast action, and console style jump puzzles, look elsewhere. Gabriel Knight 3 is an adventure game in the old school sense of the term. There are a ton of enjoyable mind benders, and only a few that will have you pounding your fist into the table saying "man, that's stupid - how could anyone think of that?" There are a few puzzles that are based on a timer, but none are "mission critical" as they all just serve to advance the story's side plots.

Time Blocks

Gabriel Knight 3 takes place over a period of three game days, split into various time blocks. Within each 2-3 hour time block, your character must complete a specific series of actions in order to advance the time and reveal more of the storyline. There are plenty of things to do within a time period that are not required, but doing them allows you to learn more about the side plots and each of the game characters' motivations. You're not limited in real time at all, so feel free to take three weeks on that "3 hour" block of game time. And believe us, for some of the puzzles and mind benders, you might need about that long to figure them out.

What do you do?

Like most traditional adventure games, you'll find yourself walking around, talking to the people you see, and clicking on, picking up any and every item that's lying around. The detective spin of Gabriel Knight 3 kicks in with the gameplay - at certain points throughout the game you'll have to spy on the other characters, find creative ways to break into their rooms, record conversations, and even lift fingerprints off of items with a fingerprint kit. What do you do with all the evidence? Analyze it in a computer of course!

Back! What about the interface?     What? A computer in a computer game? Sounds corny Next!
