Tell Me A Fable

We found Ground Control's plot interesting but not overly compelling. Maybe part of the problem is that most of the story is told in the manual with just some conversations and cut-scenes thrown into the game itself to mix it up a bit. The blurb in the manual that caught my eye dealt with the war preceding the game's timeframe. This "16-minutes war" (one guess as to what kind of war this was.) devastated the planet. After the fallout and all the nasty stuff lifted away, corporations, not countries, were the major factions on the planet. Out of this chaos sprang one of the larger religions of the world, the Order, a very large non-corporate entity (well somebody had to smack the suits around).

OOO...

Krig 7-B, the planet over which this entire war is being waged, sounds like a great place to be eh? Mostly the two factions are fighting over some old relics that are very powerful. The whole relic thing seemed rather oddly done to me. The whole time the Order is fiddling with them you end up seeing pentagrams everywhere when they turn on. They get me all set for some religious implications and go nowhere with it at all.

I make dust

Straight?

As far as linear games go, Ground Control was straight as an arrow. No curve balls here. There is one path for you to follow and if you didn't reach it you probably haven't started the game yet. This didn't bother me any; I think I was still in awe of the graphics and the game in general to care too much about choosing which battles I wanted to fight. The later battles do give multiple drop zones, which does spice it up a bit.
