Gameplay
Levels
To go along with the simple storyline, an equally linear game follows. Most of the levels only have one way to go, the occasional fork inevitably leads to the same area. The only reason to ever backtrack through a level is if you missed a switch somewhere along the way.
The variety in the locales was rather surprising. The game starts you off in an outpost in space, quickly proceeding to a heavily forested Mayan backdrop. The third region is similar to a wild-west scene, only there are no horses; scorpions and dinosaurs are your friendly hosts. The last sequence takes place in your typical evil laboratory - broken tubes, low lighting and other elements add to the ambience.

As a whole, the levels were made rather well. Aside from occasionally getting stuck on the side of a wall at non-crucial moments, we didn't encounter anything that annoyed us too much.

Bang bang
Action is probably where this game lands squarely, if you aren't running and gunning you are simply standing still. Even the tutorial has some spice to it. Instead of the usual walk around and learn the controls, the game starts off with action all over the place, people getting sucked out into space, others being crushed - definitely a nice change from the norm.
One nasty little bug we encountered was with conversations. Not really a bug, but more of an oversight on the part of developers. There are parts of the game where crucial information is being told to you during the heat of battle. This is all delivered orally, no text at all. Imagine trying to listen to a conversation while trying to fight off enemies, compound that with all the noise that entails. It doesn't make for a very good experience. Fortunately, this doesn't affect the game too much, as the instructions are pretty much go to the next area, kill everything and hit whatever switch or button is there.

The sky is falling!
If there were an award for the most scripted events, Gunman would surely win. You can't walk more than twenty feet in the game without having some floor break, ceiling fall, or other assorted building part tumble from out of nowhere. This does add to the suspense of the game, but when this happens in every room it wears off pretty quickly.
