More on the Interview
Interview (continued)
FS: What kinds of units are there (some of the more interesting/powerful
ones)?
AG: There are about 29 units in each of the two playable races. Each race
has 2 or 3 unique ships that open up a host of options for unique play
styles. Some examples in the Kushan (the good guys) race Cloaked Fighters and Drone
Frigates. For the Taiidan (bad guys), there are Field Frigates and Defense Fighters.
Cloaked fighters pretty much explain themselves. :-) Drone Frigates are
huge hangar bays for anti-fighter drones. Very deadly fighter defense.
Field Frigates are like huge bullet deflectors. When defending from a
fighter attack, they send the fighter bullets flying off all over the place,
very often back at the fighters! Defense fighters fly in formation with
other fighters and actually shoot down incoming bullets! This allows the
fighters to last much longer in combat, especially against defenders and
other high rate of fire ships.
FS: Is there a theme that distinguishes the unique units of one side from
another (I.E. Good guys ships are weaker but faster, while bad guys' ships
are stronger and slower)?
AG: The Kushan have a more bulky, military, "big-tech, low-tech" feel to
them, while the Taiidan are a sleeker, more colorful race. Both races have
a plethora of special effects and sounds that distinguish them.
FS: Will there be subtle differences in the units that are shared between
the two races? (speed/armor/weapon load out, etc.)?
AG: The races are really distinct in the look and feel of them, but we
concentrated our efforts on a strong single and multi-player experience and
decided not to try to make the two races totally different. Perhaps for
Homeworld 2. :-)

Please deliver us from cookie-cutter RTS games, and endow unto us a fully 3D, 6 degree of freedom experience where mighty ships sail and battle on a galactic scale. Along with this 3D experience give us detailed units and ships, multiple levels of transparency, and big explosions, that we may know the power of god. Amen."
