To boldly go...

Is Homeworld the beginning of the new wave of RTS games? The answer is both yes and no. Homeworld is definitely on the cutting edge of RTS development. By expanding into the Z axis, the strategies that you could only use in Wing Commander with one ship are now viable with an armada of ships. I commend Relic for being the first to cross that 3D-frontier threshold.

Breaking new ground
soso:
For entertainment value, it's one step in the right direction. In this day and age, RTS is just being rehashed over and over again in the same mythological or technological 2D-worlds. Homeworld is definitely original enough to separate itself from just about every game out there and scores where too many PC Star Trek games fail… good game play. I can envision a lot of people loving the single player (so long as the computer isn't too harsh) and team games over the Internet or LAN.

Good stuff
soso:
The in-game graphics are amazing, no doubt about it. I definitely like the way they treated the ships leaving an afterburner streak for organization and aesthetic purposes. The detail with a good graphics card and a 3D accelerator is about at the level of Quake 2, which is fairly impressive for an RTS game. The coloring is a bit shady to me, but that's personal preference. Overall, Homeworld gets two thumbs up for fun value…
