Dr. Hawkins the stud?
Another memorable quirk is the doctor's athleticism. In typical
action games, your hero(es) don't have any trouble jumping 10 foot walls or
scaling them. Neither do Kurt nor Max... but Dr. Hawkins jumps, grabs a
ledge or railing, wiggles, and falls right back down. Stick to the beaten
path with him.
It goes waaay up!
Is that thing moving?
Control
The interface and controls are smooth and natural. Though they
stray quite far from typical the typical console feel, anyone who's used
mouselook in any Quake-style game should feel right at home within 15
minutes. The analog control was for aiming and turning, the 4 buttons
represented each of the directions (forward, back, strafe left, strafe
right), while the regular direction pad was the menu. Selecting items for
the Doctor, or weapons for Max was a snap. The first level even has a
cool intro sequence to get you used to the controls and interface.
He's bigger than you are
Overall it's a great effort by BioWare so far. The graphics,
animations, sound, level design, and most importantly, gameplay are all
coming along well. For what is going to be considered the tailing end of
the 'first generation' of Dreamcast games (at least in the US), it's extremely impressive. The PC version will be virtually identical, except (of course) in the controls
(mouse and keyboard seems to be the obvious setup right now) and your
ability to save anywhere.
Ed - MDK2 is coming out for both Dreamcast and PC. While the version Jakub looked at was on the DC, it shouldn't differ radically from the experience you'd get on PC. Be sure and check out our MDK2 Interview for more info.

Wow, I thought Kenn and Dennis beat this debate into the
ground. Guess not. Here's RTS vs.
FPS for you again - Makaveli vs. Soso - wooo... top representatives of
both worlds. It's a religious battle and you know it. Just so you know,
I'm for FPS all the way. Until I played the FiringSquad boys, I really
thought that it was all just mouse, ping and frames per second. Now I
know better. It's mouse, ping, framerate and knowing to run away from
Kenn O_o 200 health, 200 armor, rocket launcher + plasma, against Kenn's
spawn health + plasma = death to me :(
