Messiah, if you go to most sites that deal with this game check out their new archives. Some might go for a few months. The truly dedicated ones might go for years. The last game that I reviewed that took years to make was quite a disappointment. Messiah, for those of you that haven't followed along, is a third person shooter. With a very unique style of game play, spectacular graphics what more could be asked for? To be honest there wasn't much left after we went through it.

The Messiah developers claimed that they had quite an incredible graphics engine on their hands and they weren't lying or exaggerating. I'm glad to say Messiah definitely matured under all those years of development. It didn't turn skunky like beer, but rather it aged like a nice hunk of Gouda.

The lo' down
God, Satan and an angel that wreaks havoc across earth. What's not to like? God saw that man was getting a bit out of control. Mankind has been getting a bit cocky with all the advancements in science and technology. Seeing that they had conquered all that was to be had on earth, man set their sites on heaven and hell. Mankind figured if they could take over hell then heaven would pose no problem. Intriguing eh? It gets even better. As Bob the cherubim, you are sent down to earth to set things straight. While the story itself wasn't too long or complicated, it was entertaining. With lines such as this: "This is how God works… The Fathers know that God plans destiny. What God doesn't know is that the Fathers know through their technology what God has destined, thus making it easy for them to work out their own strategy and plan for God's destiny."

There are a few CG sequences in the game with bits of storyline being given in almost every new level. For the most part I found the game to look better than most of the graphic sequences, which can be construed as either good or bad. In Messiah's case this is excellent, as most of the game pretty much looks like a CG sequence. I think a better job in conveying messages could have been used though. Or maybe at least some sound to them would have been nice. At the moment an in-game message comes, the character you're controlling just drop to his/her knees and some text appears. Occasionally the text taunts you, and sometimes they it provides more depth. I simply kept playing to experience more of the game. Reaching the end of the story wasn't my motivating factor. Exploring this world and seeing its characters was my main goal.
