Bring on the Japanese Robots
Earlier, we had a chance visit to Psygnosis' Bay Area offices to check out their upcoming game Drakan. While Drakan has been raking in publicity by the truckload, one of their other premier titles, Metal Fatigue, has received relatively little press. Based on what I saw at Psygnosis' offices the game definitely deserves a lot more attention than it has gotten thus far. Metal Fatigue is a new 3D RTS game that brings a lot of new features to the table. Many hard core RTS players have lamented at how stagnant the genre has gotten of late, and Metal Fatigue promises to reverse the trend with two innovative features - modular units and a three level battlefield. It also promises to prevent rushing with a "pre-build" phase that prevents people from attacking right off the bat. First off, let's examine the story behind Metal Fatigue.

What's this about?
Metal Fatigue takes place during the 23rd century after the advent of faster than light travel. Earth ships discover ruins of advanced cultures on planet after planet. They have one thing in common - they were all destroyed by the same technologically superior race called the Hedoth. Alarmed by this discovery, humans vastly improve and upgrade their military. Three mega corporations boldly take their war fleets to the Hedoth homeworld and discover to their surprise, that the planets are deserted. Where they went is a mystery but the important thing is that they left behind their technological and military riches. Metal Fatigue chronicles the wars between the three mega corporations, Rimtech, MilAgro, and Neuropa.
