Back to the isle of primates

For those of you who haven't yet set sail for the mystery-drenched shores of the fabled Monkey Island - here's a brief lesson in gaming history. Back in 1990 the good folks at LucasArts introduced the gaming public to an incredible graphic adventure game - The Secret of Monkey Island. Despite pixels the size of coconuts, the wacky adventures of Guybrush Threepwood were a hit with adventure gamers everywhere. What game-geek couldn't identify with a scrawny, hero-wanna-be lusting after a beautiful, exciting pirate princess? And everyone wants to be a pirate, don't they?

Homewrecker

Well, Lucasarts was definitely on to something good and over the past decade the game has spawned three sequels: LeChuck's Revenge, Curse of Monkey Island, and now Escape from Monkey Island (EMI).

Throughout the series Guybrush has had two main goals - become a fearsome pirate, and marry Elaine Marley, pirate princess and Governor of Melee Island. The fearsome pirate part is still up for debate, but he finally got the girl in Curse of Monkey Island. At that game's end he and his "plunder-bunny" were married and off for a fabulous Caribbean honeymoon.

I'm not asking for directions.

So, how's married life?

Escape from Monkey Island starts out at the end of Guybrush and Elaine's honeymoon. After a three-month vacation they return to Melee Island, ready to get back to piratey governing. But something's wrong. Elaine has been gone so long that now everyone thinks she's dead; her mansion is being destroyed and she's out of job.

So while Elaine tries to have herself declared "un-dead" (won't that make her a flesh-eating zombie?) it's up to Guybrush to stop the union catapult operator from demolishing the mansion. From there, it's off to Lucre Island to get a court order to permanently save their home. And the adventure begins…

Honey, I'm home!

The main story involves thwarting the machinations of Ozzie Mandrill, a ruthless developer out to rid the Caribbean of pirates and transform it into a tourist paradise (like that could ever happen). With the help of the sinister (and strangely familiar) Charles L. Charles, Ozzie's looking for The Ultimate Insult, a voodoo talisman of incredible power that will allow him to destroy every living pirate. It's up to you as Guybrush to stop him and make the Tri-Island area safe for pirates again.

You'll have help in your quest from a familiar cast of scurvy dogs. Carla and Otis are back, as is Murray the evil skull. You'll also run into the Voodoo Lady, Stan the Salesman, and of course the undead demon pirate LeChuck. There's also a bunch of wacky new characters and more monkeys than you can shake a sword at.
