WTF does this have to do with Mortyr?!

Patience, grasshopper. You see, since Wolfenstein 3D, no one has actually released a big old Nazi bash. There are still a few critics here and there that claim that all these new-fangled FPS games with their strafing and jumping can't capture the feel of the good old Wolf. This is where Mirage Media comes in. Their goal with Mortyr was to bring Wolfenstein 3D's fast action and Nazi bashing into the modern world.

Ouch

While the full game is already out in the Old World, we North Americans have to wait for a publisher (now that's a turn of events =) Fortunately, the playable demo is available for download.

So? How's it looking so far? Well, that's what I'm here to tell you.

First, let's start off with the most obvious feature, that being the graphics. They are very lush. While the models look somewhat dated, the settings are quite amazing. You start off in this cathedral type structure, and can't help but be awed. Both the engine and the artists/level designers did an excellent job in the game.

Nice architecture

The weapons are extremely cool. Knife, Luger pistol, MP-40 machine pistol (basically the original assault rifle) and a MG-42 machine gun make up your arsenal. They're all extremely well modeled, and the sounds are excellent (especially the MG-42.) My only problems with the weapons are:
a). They're a bit powerful. Everything and everyone dies very quickly. More on that later.
b). How in blazes do you run around with a MG-42 in your arms?! If you don't know what it looks like, go see Saving Private Ryan and look at the size of the gun that kills Wade... It's huge. Counting ammo, I wouldn't be surprised if it weighed 50lbs. Oh well, this is just a game. :) .... but imagine the recoil. =)

 Quick Fact
With all the 'games-make-killers' nonsense out there, Mirage Media lost their publisher. While they found a new one for Europe, no one will publish in North America so far.
