Start Your Engines!

Roughly five decades ago in 1948, the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) was formed in Daytona Beach, Florida. Since then, NASCAR has grown into one of the most popular professional sports, with a feverish fan-base following that has naturally spread into our entertainment industry, spawning hit movies like Days of Thunder with Tom Cruise, and others of the like. In our digital generation, a computer game counterpart was an obvious natural progression - And so, years later, the beginning of the NASCAR Racing series for the PC was formed, lead by game developer Papyrus.

NASCAR Racing 2, released in '96, is already a classic, having been one of the most enduring multiplayer games in recent history with the exception of Quake. Still going strong with over 5000 registered racers on its official playing grounds, TEN, you can find several hundred racers online at any given time. But as the saying goes, "All good things must come to an end." Something better is coming along. It is time for the King to be unseated.

Enter NASCAR Racing 3.

Riding the coattails of the smashing success of NASCAR Racing 2, arguably one of the best racing simulations of all-time, Papyrus has been hard at work developing its sequel, NASCAR Racing 3. Boasting a far more sophisticated engine, with frighteningly realistic physics, graphics, and gameplay, N3 is poised to be the be-all, end-all of racing simulations.

As any mechanic, car buff, or racing fan will tell you, the engine is the heart of the car. With that, we'll also start at the core and tell you a little about NASCAR 3's jazzy new engine.

There's lot of cool stuff around the corner... Next!

 Random Fact
The first woman to win a NASCAR Touring event was Shawna Robinson, when she took the checkered flag at Asheville, N.C., in 1988, her rookie season. Talk about bad ass babes.
