The Chat Continues

FS: Since characters are transferrable from server to server, what steps
are you taking to balance out DMs who might be overly generous about
treasure drops? As a DM, how am I restricted from just giving my
players a ridiculously powerful item just for completing a simple task
or defeating a low level monster?

G: We’ve got a few things that we’re using to balance out campaigns – one of the larger features is a character validation system that makes sure a character’s stats are legitimate, and that their items are appropriate for their level.

We also allow people to have their own server vault for characters – this allows players to share characters across multiple servers, and the client never touches the character so there is no chance for players to mess with the characters. Both of these things limit the ability of people to unbalance the game.

Why yes, I think I will have chicken tonight.

FS: Will it be truly possible to play and beat the game as an evil
character alignment in the single player campaign?

G: Yes – there is an evil path as well as a good path. My favorite part about the evil path was that I could shake everyone down for extra money – eventually everyone disliked me though.

FS: Most of the screenshots we've seen for NWN show a 3/4 overhead
viewpoint. Will it be possible to script different camera angles?
Perhaps zoomed-in, over the shoulder of your character, or a directly
overhead shot?

G: There are actually 3 different camera modes in the game, with 2 different camera angles – one angle is similar to Baldur’s Gate, and the other angle is an over the shoulder 3rd person view. Both angles are fun to play. The 3 modes are: 2 chase cam modes (one high view and one over the shoulder view), and one free moving camera mode. Overall there is a good amount of variety for all players.

FS: What happens to your character if you die while playing on someone's
server? What happens to your character if you lag out of a game?

G: That will depend completely on how the person scripts their server. The main campaign that ships with the game allows you to respawn back at the main temple to continue your quest after dying – there is a small penalty associated with this. When you disconnect you should reappear
where you disconnected.
