Blurring the genre lines
No, Oni is not based on the Matrix, but the timing of the game couldn't be better in terms of all the hype surrounding it and how similar the movie looks to the game. Oni is a third person 3D action game that centers around both gunplay and hand to hand combat. Think MDK and Tekken rolled into one, with an anime flair, and you more or less have the basic idea of what Oni is all about. That's right, you can have your cake and eat it too. Rip into enemies with pistols, rockets, and automatic weapons, or you can choose to be more hands-on and pummel them into submission with a dizzying array of martial arts maneuvers.

The name is Konoko, not Neo
Oni takes place in the year 2032, a dark/tech oriented future setting. The protagonist of the story is Konoko, a highly trained agent of the Tech Crimes Task Force (TCTF). Your goal is to penetrate and eliminate a mafia type criminal syndicate, so the story starts out with a basic police premise to it. As you progress through the levels, the story expands a lot with focus on skeletons in Konoko's closet. Soon her whole identity is called into question and she realizes that she's in something a lot deeper than she bargained for.
