D&D Reborn
Earlier this year, Bioware and Black Isle made a huge splash with their hit game, Baldur's Gate. BG was an RPG so huge and detailed, it took up 5 CDs. But besides its story line and faithfulness to true AD&D rules, Baldur's Gate was a success because of its engine, one which provided an almost perfect meld of turn based strategy and real time action. The Bioware Infinity Engine will also be behind the latest AD&D role playing game from the Black Isle team, Planescape: Torment. Planescape does have some minor tweaks to the engine from the one in Baldur's Gate, but the setting is the main aspect which sets itself apart from its predecessor.

What is Planescape?
Planescape is a whole different world than the one that Baldur's Gate was set in. The focal point of the action in Planescape
is the city of Sigil, which represents the center of all planes, or dimensions in this universe. Supposedly the whole town of
Sigil is filled with portals that will allow you to warp to any point in any universe. The catch is that these portals will
only open for the right key, which could be anything - a physical item, a song, or even a string of thoughts. Some portal entrances are more obvious than others. The dimensions, or "planes" in Planescape vary from traditional magical/fantasy realms, to dark, gothic world, to even science fiction type areas.
