Morte
Drugged up zombie amnesiacs - next Springer!
You begin the game in a rather disconcerting place - on a cold slab in the middle of a dirty mortuary amidst many other half-dissected corpses. What's worse is that you can't remember how you got there, or who you are. The object of Planescape is in fact, to learn about who you are and why you are immortal. Your character cannot truly die in Planescape, which is a good and a bad thing all at once. Each time you die, you lose your memory of who you are but at the same time, there are some sticky situations where "death" is the best option. At least you're not handling this alone. The first thing you find is a talking, floating skull named Morte who joins your party.

These guys don't look friendly
The rest of the alpha we played takes place primarily in the mortuary and a small slice of the town of Sigil. You wander through the mortuary finding various zombies, skeletons, and pale necromantic "Dustmen" who are alive, but are probably less inviting to talk to than the undead stuff walking about this hall of death. Morte provides great comic relief to this very dark, forboding environment that you start out in. Be wary though - the choices you make even at the start will affect how your character develops and how the rest of the game takes shape.
