Interface and more

Interface

The interface of Planescape has changed a bit from Baldur's Gate. You can now right click in the world map to bring up quick menus of actions you can take including your spells, special abilities, and more. Bringing up your entire repertoire of spells is only two clicks away, and as in BG, you can hit the clock in the bottom left hand corner to stop time and give orders to your party (yes a clock - there's a night/day cycle in Planescape too). One thing I noticed that was different is that when you select a spell, time will start up again - you have to aim your spells in real time which means that you have to be fairly accurate when aiming your spells. Mis-clicks on a fast monster means that they could get the jump on you before the spell is done casting!

More stuff

Speaking of spells, 4 were included in the playable alpha: magic missile, ice knife, pacify, and strength. Each spell has a nifty animation to it, complete with colored lighting. Over twenty spells will be included in the game. Other nifty features include a more robust NPC intelligence. If one of your party members meets up with a mortal species enemy they may go berserk. A coward in your party may flee battle at the drop of a hat. Or an untrustworthy "friend" may stab you in the back when the going gets rough! To top that off, the character generator in Planescape is dynamic. You choose your attribute levels (strength, dexterity, etc.) at the beginning, but the choices you make, the skills you acquire, and the spells you learn will define your character's alignment and how he truly ends up!
