Arabian Nights

Years ago, RedOrb released one of the classic video games of all time, Prince of Persia. It was a 2-D side scrolling platform game, and it featured detailed animation, sword fighting, incredible graphics, and tons of puzzles to solve. As its popularity grew, it found its way on to every gaming platform from PCs to Macs to consoles, and even GameBoy. Prince of Persia 1 and 2 captivated millions of gamers with slick action/adventure gameplay and the classic story of a lowly man fighting for the love of a beautiful princess. It's been a while since the series has been refreshed, but the guys over at Red Orb have been hard at work for the last several months on a triumphant return to the series. This one will be dubbed Prince of Persia 3D.

A personal visit

Dennis and I took a visit over the Mindscape/RedOrb over in Novato last week for a peek at Prince of Persia 3D. The producer of the game, Andrew Pedersen, was nice enough to give us a personal demo of the build that they were preparing for E3. We sat down and watched him run through various parts of the game as he explained what we were seeing. We also asked him various questions about the game as we went through.

What's this about anyway?

The story of Prince of Persia 3D starts out very similar to the older ones. In this newest game of the series, you've been married to the princess for a couple of weeks now, and you've been invited by the King to visit his palace for a banquet. While there, he sets a trap for you, and you're thrown in the dungeon while your newlywed bride is kidnapped. It turns out that the King and the Sultan (the villain in the original) had a secret pact that their children would marry - and no two-bit newcomer was going to spoil the plan. You start off the game by making your way out of the dungeon to find your lost love.
