Super Shotgun
Buckshot!
Overview -- The gun that has quickly become id's signature once again makes its return, only this time it's even deadlier than the last. The SSG easily ranks amongst the top three most powerful weapons in Quake 3, depending on the situation and your immediate surroundings. It packs the strength of the rocket launcher, but unlike Quake 2, it maintains a compact spread at even (almost) medium distances.
My Thoughts -- The intense, blood-pumpin', super shotgun battles we loved so much in Doom2 are back with a vengeance. The new SSG adds a facet of the game that I've sorely missed - close range, instant-hit, precise-aim combat. It is a beautiful blend between Quakeworld and Doom 2's SSG, and its versatility and power from short to medium range allowed me to stand comfortably toe-to-toe against an enemy wielding a rocket launcher. Overall, the SSG was probably the most accessible weapon and could be found on almost every map.
Suggestions to id -- I love the new super shotgun! The only change I'd like to see implemented is the damage feedback on it. The yellow flare on its ammo impact is cool, but I'd like to see more blood to show exactly how many of the pellets hit.
