It pains me to grade the game like this, because there is some truly oustanding gameplay – sadly hindered by some performance issues. Considering id Software’s history and the close relations that Splash Damage have with said company, the obviousness need to have smooth gameplay should be apparent to everyone who worked on the project.
On the other hand, it is far and away a deeper and more rewarding game than TF2. Team Fortress 2 is easy to access, is bursting with style, and has good performance – but its restrictive play becomes increasingly apparent as the hours stack up. Quake Wars just has too much going on to fall into a rut, not counting a couple of choke points on certain maps. It has all the characteristics of an excellent hardcore game except the performance, and that’s a shame. Hopefully upcoming patches will address this and the voice comms issue.
