Real Racing, Real Small

Acclaim's newest foray into the field of racing simulators is Re-Volt, and boy oh boy, are we gonna have some fun today! We're gonna have so much fun that we'll forget about how miserable we are, and how much life sucks, and how we're all going to die someday.

Re-Volt is racing with a twist; instead of controlling real cars, you're controlling radio-controlled cars. Think RC-Pro Am (one of my favourite games of all time) in 3D. You get to drive your lil' cars all over the place, from city streets to botanical gardens to the deck of the Titanic. While there is a rumor of a secret key combo to see unreleased nude pictures of Kate Winslet, we haven't found it yet.

Real Anticipation

Re-Volt, since its appearance at Comdex, has generated a fair amount of interest. What's up with that? Well, beyond the nice-looking graphics, and the real-world environments that dwarf you because of the scale of the cars, it's probably a simple case of regression. Think back to your younger days. Remember when all you had to do all day was work in the cannery for fourteen hours? Err, wrong childhood.

Back in the day when you had a small RC car and dreamt of real ones, life was much simpler. No work, no deadlines. Sleep wasn't a valued commodity, in fact, quite the opposite. Re-Volt, with its realistic physics, lets you travel back in time, re-living those days of carefree abandon, hanging around the neighborhood and proving your mettle in a test of who could get the most out of their toy cars.
