Looks like a game

As we mentioned earlier, Revenant has some really nice-looking levels; nice enough to conceal the game's tile-based origins. Of course, the game is 3D accelerated too - there is a software mode, although trying to use it hard-crashed the test machine. You have the option to choose 'most any popular 3D chipset, although, at least in the demo, you don't have a choice over what resolution the game runs in - it's 640x480 or nothin'.

The lack of any resolution choice is a shame, because being able to change it would likely clear up some problems with jagged edges in the game. Specifically, the in-game characters exhibit noticeable jaggies, especially on things like swords. Bad Revenant! No donut.

Attention to detail is paid, though. For instance, changing the armor or weapon that your character wields will affect how he looks in-game. This can be entertaining if you're the sort who likes to see your charcter running around, hacking and slashing in his skivvies. (Don't worry, there will be a female you can play as in multiplayer)

Sounds like a game

The in-game sound is pretty basic and uninteresting as of this writing, with the exception of spoken dialogue. The ambient sounds are just things like a few birds chirping (outside, daylight) or some water dripping and echoing (inside a cavern). Actual sound effects don't get much better; there are fighting, blocking, and dying grunts from all the creatures, and the whooshing of weapons as they swing through the air. Nothing to write home about.

The spoken dialogue, though, is done nicely. The voices are done by professional voice actors, and add to the realism of the interaction between player and NPC's. Hopefully, by the game's final release, we'll see some nicer ambient sound, and perhaps some music; otherwise, this may end up as a "bring-your-own-soundtrack" game.

The Revenants are a band (actually pretty good!) that plays "maudlin, self-pity induced, Honky-Tonk music of the '50s and '60s." Check out their free MP3's.
