Graphics and more

Eye candy

As you can see from the screenshots, Revenant features graphics that are quite vibrant and colorful. This is no surprise, considering that Cinematix used hand painted, 16 bit colored backgrounds. They're so detailed, you probably didn't even notice that Revenant uses a tile system. Colored lighting and shadow effects create a moody atmosphere in certain areas. On that same note, a day/night cycle is implemented in the game to create even more variety in how the game looks. To further diversify the game's visual flair, the 30+ different kinds of weapons and 30+ armor types are represented on Locke's body in the game.

As for animation, Revenant takes the best of both worlds in using hand drawn and motion capture for their characters. It's in the animation that the game takes full advantage of your 3D card, using either Direct3D or Glide for smooth gameplay during combat.

Other cool stuff

Revenant includes a ton of other features including indoor/outdoor scenes in a variety of different locales. Multiplayer support is included of course, for up to four people in deathmatch or cooperative. Perhaps most exciting is the inclusion of the game editor for players to create their own missions. Build levels, light them and script your own sequences! And since the engine is tile based, you don't need to know any complicated programming languages or know anything about 3D to make your own levels. Simply drag and drop, much like the Starcraft editor.

Overall, Revenant sounds like a fantastic game. Read on for our interview with the Cinematix team

 Quick thought
The game editor is arguably Revenant's most exciting feature. Players can create/trade their own storylines and scenarios through fansites.
