Story and Single Player
Many races
In total there will be up to six races included in Star Fleet Command, and each has their own authentic ships, weapon systems, and specialties. These include the humans of the Federation, the Klingons, the Romulans, the Gorns (reptilian species from the original series), the Lyrans, and the Hydrans. Each race is given an extensive 8-10 mission series, which is also supplemented by what the designers call "the Dynaverse." The designers plan on including at least 4 of the races (Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Lyran), with the Hydrans a likely addition and the Gorn as a distinct possibility.

The story
The overall story of Starfleet command centers around the disappearance of a race called the Organians. In one of the original Star Trek episodes, the Organians forged a precarious peace treaty between the Klingons and the Federation. The treaty consisted of a system of peaceful competition for disputed planets. Without the Organians, there's no reason to compete peacefully for expansions and war is imminent across the galaxy. The disappearance also creates strange phenomena, and every race in the game suffers after effects from the Organians' vanishing. After playing all campaigns, the player gets the complete story and how it all fits together.

Game play overview
You start off each campaign as a junior captain in charge of a single Frigate. As you move your way through the missions you can more "prestige points." Prestige points can be used to jump up ranks, improve your ships, get more starships, staff better officers, get better contacts with your central command, or join secret organizations within your race that will open up more missions for you. The Dynaverse comes in as a sort of random mission generator over the course of your career. Every now and again, you'll get a random mission that is not part of the script, one which is created with your current player condition in mind (ship strength, diplomatic situation, etc.). The Dynaverse means that playing the campaign brings new experiences every time, even if you choose the same race.
