Gameplay
Sheep!
Herding is the name of the game here people. Sheep is all about herding; you even get to herd different kinds of sheep! To be specific, you get to herd four different kinds of sheep: pastoral, factoral, long wools, and neo genetics.
Pastoral sheep are your common grass grazers, dumb as nails. Factoral sheep are bred purely for their wool. Constantly obsessed with their coats, these sheep have the intelligence of your average valley girl. Should they have a vocabulary, suffice to say, it would consist solely of the word "like." Long wool sheep (you'd think they were the ones bred for shaving) are actually the bad boys of the bunch, behaving more like Christian Slater in the movie Gleaming the Cube. Neo genetic sheep, the last breed, are especially good with technology. Who knows, they might even have cloned Dolly.

Aside from having different cute little coats, these sheep all behave somewhat differently. As the developers liked to call it, the sheep were imbued with variations of artificial stupidity (AS). I can't say I have any complaints; the sheep sure as hell aren't bright. Just as the developers intended, the sheep are downright dumb, each in their own way though. Some run from threats, others run into them. It all depends on the breeding.

The other characters in the game (random ducks, tractors…) don't seem to have as much gusto as the sheep. They do follow scripted events, a la Half-Life, but they are relatively simple. For example, a tractor will move forward after some time, then it will move back to the same position it started at. These tractors don't necessarily hunt you down in a concerted fashion, but they do a good job of moving back and forth. Other more complex movements involve moving in circles or other assorted shapes.

The levels are rather colorful and varied, but the game doesn't exactly stray from the usual prodding of sheep around various obstacles. There really isn't much incentive to keep playing unless you like doing that sort of stuff. Of course, you can always do other things with the sheep. My only motivation was to shove the sheep into some thresher or run them all into a minefield, decimating an entire flock in one score.

To add to the game play, the Sheep also turn into different things. For example you can herd your sheep through a machine to turn them into tanks. This doesn't really result in anything other than scared-silly sheep behind 30 tons of steel with the power to smack certain walls to the ground. These walls are obstacles that need to be taken care in order for you to progress in a level. Most of the puzzles are of this manner, either that or you have to trigger a switch or open a gate.
