Backstory
The evil SHODAN computer that terrorized players of the original game is back to torment the player in System Shock 2. Forty years after the near destruction of the Earth by SHODAN, the company that developed it, Trioptimum, is toiling away in near ruin. Their newest hope is a new technology they've developed that allows faster than light travel. A prototype ship called the Von Braun is created, but Trioptimum is prohibited from testing it without observation from the military. A destroyer, the UNN Rickenbacker, is attached to the Von Braun for its maiden voyage.

You again
After a few months, relations between the military on the Rickenbacker and the civilians on the Von Braun become strained almost to the point of conflict. Suddenly a distress beacon arises from a planet many light years away from the outermost reaches of colonized space. The speed of the Von Braun makes it a logical choice to investigate. An investigative team from the Von Braun is dispatched and they return. What the team finds there, and what they bring back to the ship, is a rather unpleasant surprise as a mysterious catastrophe overwhelms the Von Braun and its automated defenses. You awaken to find that nearly all of the crew members have been slaughtered and SHODAN has taken over the ship.
